***Jumps on bandwagon*** (update)
Just started clearing my tails today. Add me to the list of bandwagoners doing the same thing like everyone else.
I've never seen anyone around where I live with this done, so it should look original here anyways... I bought a spare tail light off eBay to practice on. I think I did a good enough job that I can stick the practice one on my car. Took about 45 minutes from start to amber pulled out. It is kinda a pain to do. Best advice is to take your time and not get frustrated. I need to seal it back up yet with silicone adhesive/sealant, but will do that later. I'm not in a hurry (and I need to watch the NBA Finals tonight ;) ). I also have a tail center piece coming in the mail to practice on (again from eBay). Plus I bought the SS bulbs, and I'll be doing the healights soon too. Here's some pics for now (I'll probably do a whorage of some type when it's done and installed): http://www.tenghz.com/images/bvillec...ers/cutout.jpg http://www.tenghz.com/images/bvillec...sengertail.jpg http://www.tenghz.com/images/bvillec...ers/scraps.jpg EDIT: Sorry for posting in the wrong place!!  |
Cool, cant wait to see it when its done, but why dont the tail pull apart like the fronts??
|

Quick question on this: What's the best way to clean up the loose junk on the outside of the cuts? Just soap and water? I just want to make sure it gets a good seal when I'm done.

Looking forward to seeing the finished thing

Loose stuff..I'd use the dremel sanding drum.
BTW.. a suggestion for you guys when cutting stuff like this. Have the shop vac next to you and pulling in the dust. You'll get the hang of cutting into the vacuum. It saves a ton of clean up afterwards. |
Welp, got the tail sealed up, looks great. Today started on the fronts, and snapped a few pics. Should hope to be completely done by this Saturday. If not, then next weekend......
Here's a couple more pics: http://www.tenghz.com/images/bvillec...ginalfront.jpg Baking at 200* for 20 minutes did wonders for the sealant. http://www.tenghz.com/images/bvillec...ers/baking.jpg Full of finger prints on the outside, but looks great. http://www.tenghz.com/images/bvillec...rs/cleared.jpg Still need to clear the trunk center piece, but that looks like a piece of cake compared to the tail lights themselves.... Hope to have some installed pics soon! |
very nice
