Default Bought myself a classic bonnie!!!`

FinALLY after about 6 years of falling in love with the 65 bonnie and then spending about 2-3 yrs searching I have found a bonneville to buy. Went to oregon to inspect it and we settled on a deal. I'm so sad it will be over 3 weeks before i drive it again (being shipped to home, i'm not home for another 3 or so weeks!)

Its a Bonnie 389 Convertible
Red outside and in, off-white top.
Few options, just regular Am radio, regular antenna, no AC, manual windows. Has a true dual exhaust with a glasspack on each side.
Not a lick of rust of body work that I could detect.
Does have original 8-lugs on it.
The pics I have of it are sorta bad but the car looks 300x better in person. here are links to the pics:

The pictures don't show just how flawless the body is and how nice the paint is. And the color is a little lighter red than what the pics show. It'* right between a HOT convertible red and an elegant burgandy.

What do you all think?
Don't know about the final drive ratio on it.

That sucker is an astonishing 18 ft + long car!

I had never seen a 65 in person until this weekend'* cross country trip to Oregon (home is in VA for me and this summer i'm working in Atlanta). I had expected the bonneville to be almost too wide from all the line-drawing pontiac 65 advertisements but in reality it'* dimensions were so perfect i was amazed. It was not as wide as I had hoped it wouldn't be. Don't get me wrong, it can sit 4 regular adults on each bench no problem, but I still felt I could park it in most places.

Length-wise it was as long as I had thought and i was happy with the length.

What got me the most was how low to the ground it sits. For such a huge mass of metal, (usually only SUVs are so huge), it sits at a very low to average ride height of any car out there!

I do still have my '87 (plan to never let that one go either) and I'd be glad to park the two side by side and get tons of pictures as soon as i get home in a few weeks. I'll post em to this forum when I do. Man i wish I could drive that car right now.

Next summer I hope to make it the bonnie I truly wanted (which entails dropping in a '65 421 engine and adding the appropriate decals). Although this thing has clearly enough power to go above 150mph if I told it to Go!

CONGRATS MIKE !!!!!
I know you have been looking for awhile.
That is a very nice shade of Red.
These cars sit real low to give them better handling and looks.
I found they handle best with 225/70-14 Firestone Firehawk 500 tires.
These cars were made to handle well with those old tires, so when you add radials they really come alive.
And with the 8 lug drums they stop very well. When I have to make a panic stop in my car I always look in my mirror so the guy behind me dosen't rear end me.
This car will put a lot of myths to rest for you about big heavy cars being slow and sloppy.
Happy Motoring!

It'* funny that you post this, a guy i know has one like that for sale also, fully restored on the outside and mechanically. See my other post:

http://bonnevilleclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37469

I love these bad boys. Don't the 8 luggers just stand out?

In case anyone was wondering in '65 the bonneville convertible was 3520 dollars base price, 3935 lbs, and there was a total of 21,050 made.

And the best part about that black one, at least my favorite part, is that he has a total of 7 air horns in it, two of them over 3 feet long. Imagine going around town scaring the panties off women on the street. Sounds horrible i know but it'* the most fun you can have in a car, of course aside from HAVING a woman with you. Lol
