Flummoxed again.
:?:
I owe it to some of you that I got off my derriere and got my Red Sled to another mechanic. The problem seemed routine: no brakelights. Mechanic #1 traced it to a bad turn signal switch, which didn't make much sense, and in any case the guy was unable to replace the part. But now mechanic #2 has also pinned it on the turn signal switch, and likewise cannot find a replacement. The only thing he's been able to find is an aftermarket swtich made for trucks, in black PLASTIC, which wraps around the steering column. Plastic? It'll look like a colostomy bag on the column. But the alternative is no brake lights. Which may lead to more crap than the c-bag, to be sure! Otherwise the Sled rides like the 62K mile ride it is, like BUTTER! Like a fat-bottomed girl, if you know what I mean. So what do you think: am I crazy for going for the black shitbag so I can just drive the damn thing (keeping in mind that I can go back to OS at some future date?). Or should I hold out? Yipes, it's plastic! Craig |
Well.. I have no clue what's wrong with plastic [my column is made of plastic], then I realized your whole car is metal, except the seats. So, i'm sorry, bud. Your decision.. you may want to hit up http://www.junkyarddog.com/ and do a parts search for it. That's your best bet. Otherwise.. guess it's plastic galore on your column.

Check out www.amesperf.com. If they don't have it it probably doesn't exist. A great source for full size Pontiac parts.

66 There is a very good chance its the turn signal switch. The brake lights are the turn signals but turned on after the turn signal flasher through the pedel switch.
The switches pop up on e bay from time to time or get a used one. I agree with you about the truck switch! |
