'64 Bonneville Running Rough

My 64 Bonneville was recently roused from hibernation and at first ran ok. Carb was kitted and it appears to have new wires ,plugs etc. On its maiden voyage it stalled and appeared out of gas. After restart it barely runs! Blew the fuel lines out with air and checked for leaks.negative.Pulled two plugs and found them both black with soot. It acts lean but it also acts like the coil. Suggestions?

How old is the gas? This new ethanol gas does not like to sit around.

black and sooty is rich. not very often can you just slap a rebuilt carb on and expect it to run, they have to be tuned by someone who knows that type of carb. what is it?

Spot on, and it sounds like the choke pull off is not working to me, might want to check that out.

Replace with new plugs & wires and any inline fuel filter should be replaced.
If you have the carb lean tool, just turn it back a bit to where it will run then fine tune it.
