Why don't mechanic shops replace AC compressor clutch????

I've called dozens of shops in my city and all of them want to replace the whole compressor when the issue with my car is the clutch itself. Why are they refusing to service just the clutch...?

1 word. Money.

They can make more by selling an expensive part and an expensive service. Its actually easier labor wise/time wise to replace the compressor than it is to replace the clutch. The mechanic can actually work 2 different cars just while yours is pulling a vacuum, then recharging.

Being a tech nowdays you find many remanufactured or even new parts are cheaper than rebuilding. In the case of a ac compressor if the vehicle is high mileage the internals of the compressor will have significant wear.Replace the compressor will insure better performance and offer you a better warranty

It's all about money, and comebacks....

Car only has 70k miles so I see no need for a compressor. Clutch replacement $100, compressor replacement $650. I got tired of calling around and will do the job myself.

Actually it's much easier to replace the clutch. Take the tire off, untighten the belt, unbolt a screw, take two clamps out, and replace the clutch. No need to unscrew the lines, vacuum, refill etc..:thumbup2:thumbup2

Its easier pay wise, not labor wise.

90 bucks ac clutch 205 for compressor parts plus shipping.and Tech2 labor is money for this tech.I used to rebuild most everything then parts got cheaper and more people caught sensha.Sensha worked on my car sensha did this or that and then the boss crawls up your behind because he gives them something for free that has nothing to do with your quality of work.I wish I were still rebuilding I made more but the world has changed
