Looking good! My first car was a 64 Impala 2 door hardtop with a 250 hp 327 and slip and slide. Hope you're going to keep the original steering column, the 62-65 Impalas had a built in bottle cap opener beneath the steering column, caps fell onto your floor mat which you shook out every once in awhile, must have been designed by some beer loving GM engineer long before the days of open container laws.

......I'm going to have to check on the bottle opener.

Today I got the motor and trans mated and installed onto the chassis.

I'll post pics of it in the near future.

The 64' has been in my family for 30+ years. The chassis that I am building up was actually under a 61. I had a finished 1968 convertible and I traded that finished car for the 61 bubbletop project.

Non running cars in my back yard are:
1959 El Camino (Belongs to Dad, wants me to swap manual for an automatic).
1961 Bubbletop (that 64' frame that I'm building is going under the 61.
1962 Hardtop (Was actually my first Impala ever.)
1962 Wagon, Was a really nice custom at one time (needs front end sheet metal now)
1963 Hardtop (needs total restoration, but she'* all there)
1964 Trailer queen....drives less than a few hundred miles a year (stays in garage)
1965 Impala SS bb manual trans......needs full restoration
1996 Impala SS (was my old driver....given to my daughter for good school grades).

That 1962 convertible in the picture belongs to my cousin. It'* a 283/powerglide car. He paid $17,000 plus $4,000 in taxes. He got the car at an auction. The car was seized by the feds in an El Paso, Texas drug raid operation The car was really nice when he got it. He'* had it for two years now. This winter he is having the car repainted and the upholstery re done. Basically just cosmetics.....next winter he is going to concentrate on mechanical items.

And here is the 1964 trailerqueen

Here is an old picture of the 62' wagon doing it'* thing. This shot is a page out of a lowrider magazine....Yeay, the wagon was THAT nice, now it sits in my back yard with the front end all smashed up.

Here'* the only picture I have of the 61. It was a project car when I came across it. I've already got the front end off of it......it'* a factory air conditioned car.
