Default Looking for advice Burning PROMs-Top burner

I'm running a Tpi camaro 1992 standard 8d code 730 ecm. Trying to burn chips on a sst27sf512 chip. Using a TOP853 programmer. I got the programmer setup and it appears to be working fine, it writes verifies and I can read from the chip I burn. I get no errors. But the ecm goes into limp when I install it. I have a similar (same part number) chip installed that I got mail order It works fine.

For testing purposes I am just trying to burn a stock .bin. I am running my offset at 08000. I think that is correct but I still think I am screwing something up with the offset. This burner isn't all that popular but I have heard of guys having success with these chips on this same burner.

me no likely those burners, but as a test use tunerpro and stack the BIN that way it takes up all of the 64KB of space and not deal with the offsets. if it does work, change the offset to 7FFF instead of 8000.

If you stack the bin... will it still have the run in the car?

if you mean will it work? yes. it'* actually how you stack multiple tunes onto one chip. since the ECM doesn't know about it, it will still try to access it as a 32KB block, but if you switch the highest address pin to 5V or ground, you control which 32KB it sees.

since the same tune is stacked twice, it more or less forces the ECM to read it correctly regardless of any offsetting since you're sticking 64KB of data onto a 64KB chip.

Ok, that'* cool, so the first 32k can be say stock tune... and the other modded tune. which pin changes the tune? is that a mod done inside of the ecm?

Great info guys I knew about offsets but not stacking. I'll repost after I've tried it.
Thanks.

you COULD do it in the ECM.... but i prefer to mod the MEMCAL with a DIP socket(in case you don't like the tune or the chip dies) and stick a small resistor under it to limit current to the highest address pin(A15 i think)? more ohms means a longer switching time, i think 2.something K ohms took ~3 second to switch, while a 680 ohm was momentary.

but the A15 pin is top and left if the index mark is pointing straight up, and the +5V pin to steal power from is top right. pins 1 and 28 respectively. the datasheet would be better to look at.
