Angry 2009 traverse bucks and skips

This is an on going problem, started about 30,000 ealer raced timing chain since it has done same thing several different times. dealer has done several computer updastes, once said it was due to dirty air filter, filter didn't lok to bad to me. Vehicle now has 1008,000 and skips and bucks real bad, dealer says they need to replace left valve cover and clean right valve cover to the tune of $745.00 to fix. I don't think they have a clue. Has anyone had similer problem? is dealer jerking me around? Help!

Have you had it scanned for any codes? Though the check engine light may NOT be on, it still could have a pending code.

after codes, i would replace the plugs and wires because 100k is how long they ever last. if that doesnt help i would probably check the fuel pressure and hook up the scanner and drive it to see what the sensors look like. hopefully its not a million and 8, lol. what engine?

Give us a little more description on "skips and bucks". Under what conditions does this happen? For example, if your engine hesitates like it is falling on its face under heavy acceleration the problem could be a misfire. Without diagnostic trouble codes to tell us whether it is a random misfire or a cylinder specific misfire, we can only give you generic responses such as change plugs, wires and check fuel pressure. Take the car to Autozone and have them scan for diagnostic trouble codes. They do that as a free service. Let us know what you find.

The vehicle has 108,000 miles but how long have you owned it. Do you know the entire maintenance history. If it has been a while since plugs and wires were replaced, or if you don't know when they were last replaced, that is where I would start. Most of the misfires I have seen came from a cracked ceramic insulator on a spark plug, or a split or cut in a spark plug wire.

More information will help us to help you better.

Would be a good idea to check the plugs. Sounds like a carbon tracked spark plug to me, but hard to say without feeling it myself. These are a coil over plug setup so you'll only have to replace the one if a spark plug has carbon tracking on it.

i had a friend who had this problem, it was very intermittant, and the mechanic installed a box where when it did it she could press a button and it would store information from before and after this happened. Im not sure what it came out to be. Check the tsb'* on the vehicle.
