what i think happen is the shop that remand it long before me did not get every thing out of the oil holes
as you can see it does not look nice but it was not making any sound and could have lived with it as i am sure its been this way for 60K miles if i had to guess
it had no play
i did show the guys at the shop this and they 2 said to live with it or drop a new set in if i wanted to . so at that time i bolted every thing back up and started testing again to find the sound
the sound is not in the low end of the motor

well got alot of stuff done today
I should have not played with trying to install a new Crankshaft Rear Seal as i don't have the Installer J-42849 . its a 2 part seal and i did not know that
I am going to have to 3D print a tool to help me push them on
I can tell you the Piston to Cylinder Bore Clearance is alot better with the new pistons . they don't move around at all . i put the old 1 back in as a test and it moves alot .
but i have the crank / cam / heads on and the block bolted back into the RV
The stop plate that holds the cam in was left on the motor when i gave it to the shop . when i got home with the motor it was not there . they found the plate but gave me back the wrong T30 bolts so it well be monday now before i can ask them and i am sure there lost in the wind by now

And i forgot how bad all the steps where to installing the heads for the motor so good thing i have room in the motor bay to work on this and when i made the motor mounts them self that i made them where the oil pan can come on and off with nothing in the way

Angry

so look at what i missed . this was right where the sound was coming from !! 3ed back . giving we never found the sound i am really looking at every thing hard why installing parts
the guys at the shop talk about a guy with a 8.1 like me that had a lefter go bad like this and the sound never did go away in tell he installed new lefters
the sound was coming from the cam like a lefter was jumping off the cam some how and i could only pick up the sound from the rocker hammering the valve ....guessing here
when you play the video the sound does not mach whats going on and still sounds like some thing else but i sure hope this fixes it
but i am ready for it not to be as there was no sound at all at idle or any other RMP with out load
what do you think .. add load adds heat adds sticky lefter adds sound???

GOD i still not under stand how i miss this rocker . i have never did that before

here is the 3D printed parts i made for the 2 part Crankshaft Rear Seal . worked so nice

I don't think that'* your sound. It would happen over a lot more RPM range if it was, and it wouldn't be sudden-on sudden-off like your sound.

Interesting! Why 3D printed as opposed to Felpro or somesuch?

sorry guess i did not go into it but the Crankshaft Rear Seal is a 2 part Seal and i did not have the 400$ tool for installing them . so i just 3D printed a tool i made in CAD really fast for installing them
the tool needed to be 20MM deep to push each seal in/on 1 at a time

i all so dont have the 100$ J 42845 balancer installer tool and all the rent me tools around me dont have the M16 1.5 bolt needed to push the balancer on
i found some nuts and the pic shown may get me what i need to make it work . A home made installer

real story here . i had a 2005 suburban with a 8.1L many years back
the owners before me said it used way to much oil and gave it to a NY GM dealer to fix it and pull the motor apart to fix it and they did not have the right tool to instill the balancer so they used the bolt to put it on with and it did not work and trashed the crank. the GM dealer set the suv on fire to cover up what they did . i got the usv after word and did a reman title on it . loved that suv and miss it . have some cool pics of the work i did

so even if i have to make the tools i need . its going back the right way
