Default Rebuilding a 3100?

We have a 1999 Monte Carlo LS 3100 that died a few months ago. It'* in pretty good shape so I hate to see it sit and rust or get junked. She told me the camshaft bearings went out but I'm thinking the main bearings might be gone too.

The LIM gasket has blown out three times in the first 100,000 miles of the car and it finally killed it.

Would it be possible for me to just replace those bearings and bring it back to life or am I looking at a full rebuild / different engine? I plan on trying to find and install updated gaskets while I have the engine out as well. If I swap the engine it may get a 3500 or 3400.

On the bright side it'* been replaced with a 2010 impala!

Default

drop in a 3400 for minimal fuss and slightly more power.

drop in a 3500 for a LOT of potential but more work.
