I just bought a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado from a friend and the A/C air volume does not seem to be blowing as hard as it should. The air is cold and I can switch the air speed to each interval setting, but the volume of air is not coming out as hard as is should / sounds. You can here the motor and, basically, when switched to high, the air feels like it'* in low or just one notch above.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot what the problem might be? Many thanks in advance.

Have you checked the blower motor yet? It could be bad

Agreed, it'* likely something to do with the blower motor. Either the motor itself or the blower motor resistor. Although the resistor is usually only bad when the air only works on the high setting. The motor and resistor should be located under the glove compartment.

I have not checked the motor yet and will tomorrow morning. What will I be looking for to determine if it'* good or bad?

I see no one was able to help you with that last question. I'm not quite sure myself, I've never had to diagnose a blower motor, only the resistor. Have you checked into anything yet? If not, just to clarify, does the output of air change at all on the settings between low and high? or does it just stay at 1 speed no matter what setting it is on? You may also want to check to make sure there are no burnt out fuses or clogged filters that may be associated with the blower motor.

As stated above...have you also checked your A/C EVAP?
Typically if the EVAP is plugged than you will notice reduced airflow coming from the vents.
Also not sure if you have a cabin air filter? If so check that as well; another airflow restriction when plugged.

No, I have not had a chance to check anything yet. The level of output does change some, but not like it should. Basically, when set at high, it feels like it'* on medium or just above low. I looked at the fuses and did not see any that were burnt out, and they 1997 models do not have cabin air filters.

I will try checking the EVAP when I can to see if it is clogged. Is this the only filter to check or is there any others? Also, does anyone have a suggestion as to how to clean the air that is sent out the vents? I was thinking there should be a filter somewhere, but noticed that this model does not have a cabin filter, so I'm open to any suggestions.

under the dash on my friends 00 is a panel that you got to remove to get the cabin filter out i dont know if you have the same set up but on theas trucks that are setup with them they are inside my wifes car they are under the cowel out side i will look and see if i can find something about yours no promises though
