Default cost of a diagnostic anyone know?

so i went to GM and asked them how much it is to remove the Anti theft on the engine light so i can start the engine

but they wont let me they insist a diagnostic can take from 2 min to 2 days and they cant even give me a realistic answer

all i wanted was the perment anti theft removed from the computer like erase code that its on as the 3 key 10 min thing does not work for this car even when i chang out the key cylinder

is there a place i can get what i want erase this damn code?
cuz i told another gm place i dont want no high price or i scrap car

like if its a 1000 bucks they can have the car

its for a 1997 cav 2.2

Not part of the PCM. Look in tech info, there is a write up on bypassing VATs. It'* very easy, just put a resister inline and your done.

oh ic i been told that the TDM is built into the cluster, and since the cluster is malfunction it cant send the signal from there to the computer but if you have direct link share it if not ill look it up later

If the car is not under any kind of warranty, then you could find somebody that tunes PCM'*, and have them tune out the anti-theft altogether, I know a guy that you can mail your PCM, and he can flash it, then send it back to you, he normally charges around 100.00 for that, you pay shipping...

I'd get this bypass first, and give it a try.
GM VATS Bypass Module For LS1 and LT1 GM VATS Bypass Module For LS1 and LT1 [gmvats] - $24.95 : 3rdBrakeFlasher, E-commerce web site

I have not installed one myself yet, I just found the resistance of the pellet for my original key, I used a 1.00 radioshack resistor, and put it on the wire block near my left foot, where the wires from the key/ignition cylinder meet the wires coming from the TDM.
I'd suggest getting that module in the link above, it should not be hard to hook up yourself, I'll see if I can find something showing the location of your TDM, mine was behind my glove box..

as he said the tdm on cavaliers and a few others is on the cluster module, so you have the key reader hooked to the cluster and who knows what the signal is from the cluster to the computer could be serial data like a computer. gm isnt very forth coming with this kind of info. so that module may or may not work. you could try the resistor thing only if the key looks like that. but that only bypasses the key reader part of the system, there is a bunch other stuff to it. i think the only reliable fool proof way is to have the pcm changed to not look for that

I was wondering about that key myself. Are they the same as our b-villes? Or are they like the POS Blazers?

the last time i was looking around you could get your computer tuned for around 150 depending on what you want done so unless you can get a junk yard cluster and have it programed by the dealer for less than that (doubtful) and you still have the problematic security system to deal with
