Default 04 radio harness Purple Radio wire i get ground is that ok?

hi
i recently got a new radio
and i had before that after market radio harness to be able to shut radio off when door opens and such in blew up a couple years ago so i re wired my last radio to always stay on with the constant 12vot i just had to shut it off on manually by button

but i got this new radio and i wanted to just bypass the module go off there pink wire which is connected to the radios purple wire

when i do mulitimeter i get 12 volts from 12v yellow constant and the purple wire that goes to the body control module is that ok? as i guess its acting like ground i dont get 12 volts from the pink or puple wire of the radio to ground

i just wanna double check that wire didnt burn out and id have to run a new wire off the ignition accessory wire harness at the column

No it does not use the same harness....

I think you are talking about RAP, retained accessory power......this keeps accessories on for 10 minutes, or shuts off immediately if a door is open....

Is this a 97 Cavalier this radio is going into? What kind of radio? Aftermarket or GM?

its for the 2004 caliver... i have a Pumpkin Android Radio

but for my old JVC deck i had to buy the wireharness with the door chime built in it... well one day it popped the door chime radio didnt work on the red wire it was supplied... so i ran power and memory on the constant 12 volt yellow wire so i manually shut on and off the radio

but i was testing the Purple wire says it goes to the BCM...as the chimes and the 5 min radio stayed on was in the radio was it not when door opened

either way i get 12 volts if i probe it from Yellow to purple so where you think 12 volts+ should be on both lines but purple wire acting as ground.. now i dont have my other multimeter to test continuity to see if it beeps when i probe purple and ground... but what should i get off the purple wire with the probe as i figured i should get 12+ volts to ground wire not 12+ going from constant wireyellow and purple wire

Wiring harnesses are a little different, if you have an amplifier, or a digital receiver.....

Looking at the base radio, power in is Term B1(orange wire) of connector C1.....the purple wire is Class II serial data from the BCM, and depending on which system you have is located at terminal A1 or A2 of C1, or Terminal G of C2.....

It is the Class II signal from the BCM, that keeps the radio on until a door is open or until the BCM times out......it is not a 12 volt supply line....

ah ok thats why its basiclly ground then it just doesnt seem to change when i turn the key or open the door on the purple wire just acts as a ground..

guess you need that module working with the red accessiory wire off it.. to simulate the radios binging and shutting off signal

so i guess for now ill leave it wired directly to constant power and it shut off by just me holding the switch.

was hoping the open door to shut radio off was done by the bcm but from what you say it doesnt its all done by the damn radio or that damn 80 dollar speaker with red wire burned out for accessiory.. id build one if i knew how the power worked from the purple wire

Well, it is done by the BCM.....that purple wire is not a ground either....it is a class II data line, so when you open a door, the BCM senses it....if the ignition is in the off position, the BCM sends a class II message to the radio to shut down.....this is only going to work for a GM radio that uses the same terminal for Class II communications....

It looks like a ground, because when there is no communication on the Class II circuit, it reads zero volts.....The network uses a zero to Seven Volt signal; the voltage rests at Zero volts when there is NO communication; the transmitted data is a variable pulse width signal......Class II is usually pin #2 in the DLC.....

Hopes this helps you to understand how RAP works with the BCM....

ya i understand and confused same time but i get it there is somewhat voltage on the purple but its really commuincation

thats why that module with the speaker on it to replace the door chime in the radio
and since i dont wanna spend another 80 bucks for that stupid module bypassing like i have will work regular old ways accessory wire lol

i guess gm gets more complicated later on years..

as i wanna change cars soon tired of the cav
