1971 Chevelle drum to disc

well the other day i decided to overhaul my brakes (four wheel manual drums) and all of it is in terrible shape the drums are so grooved you would think someone took a grinder to them so i was thinking about doing power front disc rear drum conversion i dont think i can afford four wheel disc so first off i was wondering if it is worth it second what exactly do i need to do it are there cheaper alternatives to the $700 kits from year one and opg and what cars could i get some of these parts off of from a junkyard since even 4 door chevelles are nearly impossible to find in a junkyard now

and if the price of the conversion is to much for my current budget what would be the best drums to get none of my local parts stores seem to carry drums anymore so where could i get them

thanks

Yeah I wouldn't pay for the year one kit. All you need is the caliper brackets, calipers and a set of roters. Your also going to need to change the proportioning valve. The spindles are the same and don't need to be changed. I would look for any 68-72 A-body's in the junk yard or craigslist. Chevelle, lemons, cutlass, or skylark with disk brakes should all interchange.

70-72 Monte Carlo will fit as well.

what about brake lines and what do i need to have power brakes just the booster?

Yes the brake lines will need to be changed, they are like 20.00 bucks on Rockauto. The calipers and rotors are pretty cheep on there as well. As far as the booster your car must be a stripped model cause by 71 power brakes were almost standard. To add power brakes your going to need the booster, a new pedal rod and to change the master cylinder because it's a different bore size. I found the caliper brackets pretty cheep on eBay. I bet for around 400.00 you could have power disk brakes by shopping around for the parts.
