Taking apart and troubleshooting rear camera on a 07 Escalade
I need to troubleshoot my rear camera and was trying to take it apart. I am getting an error when I shift my truck into reverse, "service rear vision system". Looks like water might have gotten in or something. Is there instructions somewhere I can follow to take it apart and look?

the service manual doesnt say how to take it apart, just that it sends 12v to the unit and if it doesnt get the proper signal back. you could test for the 12v and ohm the wires.
"The rear view camera image display module receives a 12-volt signal from the body control module (BCM) indicating that the vehicle is in reverse gear. When this signal is detected the rear view camera image display module will provide a regulated 6-volt power source to the rear view camera. The rear view image will then be displayed on the radio.
If a proper video signal is not detected, the radio will display a SERVICE REQUIRED notification on the radio display.
Rear Vision Camera System Always On
•Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear view camera image display module.
•Ignition ON, vehicle in PARK, verify a test lamp does not illuminate between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
⇒ If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit test normal, refer to Backup Lamps Always On.
•If all circuits test normal, replace the rear view camera image display module.
Rear Vision Camera System Does Not Display
•Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear view camera image display module.
•Test for less than 1 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 3 and ground.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
•Ignition ON, vehicle in PARK, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 2 and ground.
⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
•Ignition ON, park brake applied, transmission in reverse, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal 1 and ground.
⇒ If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
•Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the rear view camera image display module. Disconnect the harness connector at the rearview camera.
•Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 Ω between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rear view camera image display module.
•Ignition ON, vehicle in REVERSE, test for 5.8-6.2 volts between the 6-volt reference circuit terminal A and ground.
⇒ If less than the specified range, test the 6-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rear view camera image display module.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the 6-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rear view camera image display module.
•Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1 Ω between the camera video signal circuit terminal C and ground.
⇒ If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
•Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear view camera image display module.
•Test for less then 1 Ω between the shield circuit terminal 10 at the rear vision camera display module harness connector and terminal D at the rear vision camera harness connector.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the shield circuit for an open/high resistance.
•Ignition OFF, disconnect the rearview camera harness connector.
•Test for less than 1 volt between the signal circuit terminal 9 and ground.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
•Test for less then 1 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 9 at the rear vision camera display module harness connector and terminal C at the rearview camera harness connector.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
•Ignition OFF, disconnect the X4 harness connector at the radio.
•Test for less then 1 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 11 at the rear vision camera display module harness connector and terminal 7 at radio harness connector.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
•Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 6 at the radio harness connector and ground.
⇒ If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
•Test for less than 1 volt between the signal circuit terminal 6 at the radio harness connector and ground.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
•Test for less then 1 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 12 at the rear vision camera display module harness connector and terminal 6 at the radio harness connector.
⇒ If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
•If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rearview camera.
•Ignition ON, vehicle in REVERSE, verify a clear rear vision image is displayed on the radio.
⇒ If a clear rear vision image is not displayed, replace the radio."

I would love to run all the tests to figure out what is causing the error. But I am a newbie in terms of of being mechanical and need guidance on taking the camera module out or exposing the connections. I am a software engineer and thought I could give it a shot before staking to dealer. The truck is out of warranty.

unfortunately i cant post pics right now but if you find the plug for the rear view camera you can make some little wires to make a good connection in the plug end with it removed from the module. if you put your meter black lead on the black/white stripe and red on pick wire you should get 12v with key on. and black to either same wire or clean ground point on the car and red lead to dark blue you should get some voltage there in reverse. there is another pink and light blue that look like they are kind of together those are the return video wires. if you dont get the signal at the camera let me know, if you do something is likely wrong with it and if you are not real handy with electronics it would best result if you get one from a junk yard or something
