Default 2010 CTS Valve Body/ Transmission Problem

Hello all,
probably gonna sell my car as "junk' this weekend, but first, I have to ask this.

Is this a simple job for an average shade tree mechanic like myself, or should this work be completed by transmission shop only?

Here are the symptoms.

I started randomly seeing a stabiltrac message on the dash, but would go away and things would be normal for a while. Would drive normal.
I took the car out one day and got almost no response from transmission, just higher RPMs, as if it was in neutral. I could idle forward, but any acceleration attempt would come up short. Just an engine rev and dash messages, as if the car is in Park. (doors momentarily unlock, then relock)

Also has noise coming out of transmission.

Anyways, if I was to waste my time replacing this, where would I start?

There'* a lot to unpack here.

What engine does it have?

What transmission does it have?

How many miles on the car?

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

Is the [check engine] light on? If so, what codes does it have stored?

Why are you saying "valve body" already?

I had it checked by a mechanic. He tested data bus lines and some other things. Very reliable, but it was his "conclusion", but he referred me to a tranny shop. 2010 3.0 and whatever transmission comes standard. Not a CTSV. Automatic for sure though. 95k miles. Cant check fluid level, dumb design.

Ah . . . so it'* not that you can't check the fluid level, but rather it is more difficult to check because it doesn't have a dipstick.

Based on your symptoms, I suspect it is low on fluid. Has it ever been drained and filled for maintenance purposes?
