Default Passenger Seat Air Bag module/sensor

Thanks for the addition. I enjoy forums but, not too many issues with my Caddy so this is my first time here.

2007 STS 4.6l V8. About 4 months ago I had a dead battery. I swapped it out. Not sure if this is related or not but, I'm hearing a lot about air bag lights after a battery swap. Mine didn't happen right away. It was a week later when the air bag light came on the first time, then it went off after a restart. I figured it was a fluke. 3 week later I took the wife for a Sunday drive to the mountains and we stopped for a bite to eat. Upon returning to the car I started it up and the airbag faulted with the red light and the DIC displayed the "Service Airbag" message. When I got home, I check wires and connection ect. Nothing worked out.

I had to have some routine maintenance done last week. The tech told me that the passenger side seat module is sending the failure. They tried to clear it but it detects a fault and the light stays on.

I've been reading a lot of complains about GM and the same passenger side seat issue. I also know the CTS had a recall. I'm also hearing that it'* close to a $1000.00 bill to have it serviced.

I'm all for unbolting the seat and rolling it back to expose the wiring for an inspection. Are there any how-tos?

Was the code read, and actually diagnosed, or was this just a guess on the part of the dealership?

I have run into some problems with the PPS system, on LaCrosse'*......there have been TSB'*.....one was don't let the seat get wet.....had an instance where the customer had a stain on his cloth seat......our in house auto detailer, spent forever cleaning it....next thing you know the air bad was on for the PPS system......had to take the seat completely apart to dry everything out, and luckily that took car of the problem....

Another problem that throws the sensor off, is the addition of seat covers or cushions, it can effect weight distribution on the sensor and cause problems....have also seen people store things under the seat causing problems......

As far as some of the tricks, well, I have been on other sites, and it'* kind of taboo to talk about Air Bag fixes, due to liability problems....when it was in the dealership, there were one or two quick things they could have done, that would have only taken a few minutes, and could have saved you some head aches....

My 07 Caddy has 55k on it and I'm the only driver. I know who'* inside and out of it. Nobody has ever sat in the passenger side with wet pants. Normally I'm the only one in the car. There'* no stains or seat covers, just my wife'* butt occasionally sits there. Likely the only thing that has passed through the seat is nitrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and methane gas. The only thing under the seat is the wires and the carpet.

I don't take the car to the dealer since they did the faulty brake job. Those joker put on wrapped rotors and then blamed it on the struts. Then the last time I was there to have the battery serviced someone aired up the right front tire to 45psi. When I confronted the service adviser about it they stated I did it.

Seriously I think the nhtsa should be doing something for the consumer here because this is a safety issue. Air bags are disabled due to no fault of the owner and they are expected to pay $1000.00 or hit the road. This is bull ****.

I wasn't saying that your seat was wet, I was just reciting a few problems I have run into......

Some problems involve removing the sensor which can be costly, and some are simple connection fixes.....

Apparently, you are not happy with the Cadillac dealer you went to....since the vehicle is no longer under warranty, you do not have to go to a Cadillac dealership.....you can go to Buick, Chevy, etc.

And if you have specific complaints about a dealership, make it known to GM by calling Customer Service....if you don't complain, the status quo at that dealership continues...

I have worked for dealerships, where the customer always came first.....however GM went to centralizing their dealerships, making them huge, but far apart and covering large areas, not making it easy for Customers to get their vehicles to them....moreover, these dealerships are huge and have a big nut to carry every month.........so it'* all about the money......these dealerships have forgotten that it'* the techs that make or break their service departments.......they are underpaid, for the most part, and sometimes dealerships try to get away with less than adequate help to cut corners.......a lot of good techs have left the business, or left dealerships, and the dealerships have not adequately replaced them.....

I have read stories about people who complain about dealerships, and continue to go to them.....don't......if you feel your vehicle wasn't diagnosed correctly or you were overcharged, call GM......I am not saying you are going to get instant gratification, but if enough people complain about a particular dealership, then something can be done.....
