Did you check to make sure replacement transmission had the same final drive ratio? They had a few different ones to choose from.

Last I knew, it doesn't matter. If the the ratio's are different, he can swap them around as LONG as they are the same year trans. ATSG manuals say 94, 95 and I think 96 used different types of cut gears for the diff's which makes them NON interchangeable.

Transmission was from a 97, and swap went fine, car still cruises great at speed.

However, car still does not have first gear.....guess its an electrical problem that is not "IN" the transmission.

Car starts in 2nd gear whether in Drive or manually shifting.

Where to go from here?

i would check the wiring harness from the trans to the pcm, could have a shorted wire

nwohiochevyguy 06-12-2014 02:49 PM

Yeah that's what I'm thinking also, but any idea what wire would cause a first gear problem like this?

I will pull the wiring harness apart and see if I can find a broken wire, but would love to know which wire I should be looking for in the bundle.:w3

Anyone have a wiring diagram?

I found this,

https://images.search.yahoo.com/imag...R&fr=yfp-t-301

Any idea's which wire it would be?

jwfirebird 06-12-2014 03:54 PM

i dont know much about that trans but i would think the lt green, 1-2 shift control could be an issue, if everything else works

nwohiochevyguy 06-16-2014 08:52 PM

OK found this on Triple Edge Performance - Home Page and it seams to make sense.

Shift Solenoid Patterns for each gear

Range 1-2 Solenoid 2-3 Solenoid

Park ON ON
Reverse ON ON
Neutral ON ON
1st Gear ON ON
2nd Gear OFF ON
3rd Gear OFF OFF
4th Gear ON OFF

Playing with the car more it seams to use 2nd and 3rd gear fine, but 1st and 4th don't seam to engage. However Park, Neutral and Reverse all work which also shows the 1-2 solenoid being "ON".

Makes me scratch my head even more.

Does anyone have a wiring schematic for where the transmission wires go to? Do they go through the switch on the transmission where the cable attaches to. I believe this to be the NSBU switch

1 Attachment(s)
No, the wires from the plug in connector under the air intake tube goto the PCM.

This image is for my 97 Bonneville. Should be the same for yours.

If you need more schematics related to the trans or engine, lemme know. I have an Alldata subscription.
