Default 99 century. Trans not engaging.

250k miles. Was going down the highway and all of a sudden it was as if I was in neutral, no R no D or manual. Gear selector is fine and can feel the cable moving, does not pull down the motor at all. Please help I just put a junkyard motor in this car I'm a decent mechanic but not good with transmissions.

Check trans fluid level. If that'* ok...check to see if your flexplate is still attached to the torque converter.

Fluid is just barely high. Smells burnt and flexplate is still attached

If the pump is working, then the trans level should go from high(engine off) to normal(engine on)...unless the filter is clogged, but you would hear a bad sound from the pump screaming. Something isn't right.

You can check for stored codes first. Trans codes don't always trip a light.

I think you go back to what Mike originally asked........if the fluid level is the same with the engine off, as it is running, it means the pump is not running......you can also do a pressure check on the tranny....
