Default 97 PA more oil/fluid leaks

Lets see I have replaced the U/L IM'* gaskets, valve cover gaskets, the oil pan gasket, trans pan gasket and tonight noticed two sets of golf ball sized drops about 18" inches right of the front passenger side tire on the ground...
I noticed the power steering was not as smooth..so checked the fluid level..ya it was down about 6 oz of fluid barely even on dipstick....
So I assume those power steering lines are leaking somewhere on the passenger side...Do I replace both lines or just try to slide in new o-rings in there? Is that an option...?? What should I look for....besides oil everywhere around them. Are these solid one piece lines with fittings on the PA?

If it is from a bad o-ring you should be able to just replace the o-rings, loosen fitting, pull it back, and you should be able to roll the old o-ring off, and put a new one on, but I have never done it before myself.
Try to find out of it is coming from the pressure hose, or the return hose, when you know which one I can try to help you find the o-rings for it.
If you have to replace a line, they are from 32.00 to 45.00 here in the US, not sure how much more they are there.

I will have to get this thing on a lift and inspect it further. I will let u know what I find out. In the meantime I will have to keep an eye on the power steering fluid levels if it gets any worse, I will have to do this ASAP.
I may get some lift time on Tuesday am at my friend shop.
Better tip him with some beverages!

Exclamation Bad News Leak!

Confirmed today it is leaking from the seal of the power steering pump pulley.
Well it lasted 100,000 miles. I hope the rebuilt Delco does well.
I know I will not be tackling this job myself. We all know how hard it is just to access the reservoir cap...
I can't image how difficult this will be for the shop to replace it.. 3 hours labour?

Well I did manage to get the alt job done this week. The PS pump will have to wait a while as I am leaving on holidays for a week...with the Jeep.
The PA is parked until the new pump get installed.

Replacing that yourself would be a knuckle buster, and require a little stretching of your arms, but not too difficult to do, I have not replaced mine before, but when I replaced my water pump I had to remove it, it was not too tough of a job, I could see it taking half the time they want to charge for, not sure how it would take 3hrs unless they really took their time, of course I am not sure how long it takes to bleed the system of any air.
The only problem I had when I removed mine from the block, was that I broke the oil pressure sender, because I did not realize it was right under the PS Pump area.
If you did DIY then the most important thing would be to put a bungee on it while you are disconnecting the lines from the pump, that way the PS Pump never rests on , or hits that oil pressure sender.

On a side note, I think with the right tools you can open up the pump and replace the o-rings, and pump shaft seal inside of it, I see a kit for under 8.00 on RockAuto, so they have to be able to be replaced, I'd imagine the toughest part would be pulling the pulley off, and the bushing, unless you already have the little puller tool..
Then again after watching a video, you may just want to replace the unit as a whole, it will probably involve less headache!

Granted I like the idea of a new unit all together myself, it would be fun to learn how to rebuild one.

Thanks William for the info. I also liked the idea of a complete pump so I ordered a Delco power steering pump complete with the reservoir, new o-rings, new bolt but missing the cap and pulley which has to get moved over from the old PS pump.
The shop is working to install it today, ready by 4pm.


Later I will find a PUB!! Shot from Sand Castle competition while I was on holidays! LOL

Update: PS pump is installed. 2 hours labor. (extremely fair)
They attacked it from below by popping the passenger side ball joint, cv shaft etc to gain access for installation. Also something about having to remove bolt on front of engine mount to drop it down due to some belt bracket or something, did not really catch all that part. Also since the 9 month old GY gatorback serp belt had suffered from PS fluid absorption, another new GY replacement belt was installed. I used Lubegard PS fluid again and they bled air in system.
All is good in the hood. (and under it)
