I never liked electronic steering......you can lose it at any time, with a glitch in the motor/steering module......never lost power steering on hydraulic systems unless it was a catastrophic fluid loss/broken belt.....but when they failed they failed....the electronic units can be very intermittent....and then once out of warranty, are a huge expense to repair, even if you can find someone to diagnose it right.....most codes are ABS codes, and most scanners can't read ABS, or "C" codes....

There are all kinds of TSB'* on these systems......bad connections, water leaking onto harnesses, recalls, etc.

As for that crap about not road testing the car, whenever we had a problem like that, we would have the customer leave the car overnight, and give him a loaner......then, whoever lived farthest away, the owner, SM, or even a tech, would drive the car home and try to recreate the "concern".....

Rule of thumb is, Buicks can only be covered under warranty, by a Buick dealer.....UNLESS, it was sold as a used car at another GM dealership(while still under warranty)......

Any dealership, that doesn't take care of their customer, that customer should call GM Customer Assistance........

Mine is doing the same thing. Dealer says no problem found. It gets to the point that you think you are not going to be able to turn the wheel, then it lets go and you over-steer. We really need some help on this one. It'* kinda scary at highway speeds!

I'm glad I found these posts on the steering issue as I have a 2013 Buick Lacrosse with the same problem as your Verano. Only seem to notice it at highway cruise (100 to 100km/hr - Canada) and after having driven for 45 minutes or more, which for me does not happen all that often. I find the problem to be very subtle, in that I only notice it when on a long straight stretch of road when the steering wheel is on dead center and it has stayed there for several seconds because no steering input was required to change course, and only if there is no cross wind. Do not feel it when cruising around highway corners and when there is a cross wind the steering wheel is usually being "pushed" in the direction of the wind so don't notice it. The amount of steering "pressure" to move the steering wheel off dead center is very slight, could be to either direction, right or left. It has never scared me, i have never felt like the steering was going to totally lock up. I took the shop foreman from my dealership for a test drive on the highway after the last time I had this problem (a couple of weeks ago) and he thought he noticed it, but I wasn't so sure that he did, we had only been out for 15 minutes. After dropping him off at the dealership I went back on the exact same highway route to try and duplicate the problem but could not. The next day I drove 3 hours on the highway and the problem did not occur, but there was a bit of cross wind. I have experienced the problem several times in the past though and I definitely know it is there. Perhaps it is just a quirk of the electric steering - I have never had electric steering before. If it ever gets worse I will certainly keep you posted. I will be heading on a highway cruise next week. I was wondering if the issue may have been cold weather related as I have often noticed it when temperature was anywhere from -20 to -30 degrees Celsius, but have also noticed it when above zero.

After almost 8 months of not having this issue, it'* back again. Starting to think maybe it'* also temp related.

Anyone else have any comments?

I also have not noticed the steering issue (although my issue did not seem to have been as severe as yours) for a long time, certainly not during this past summer. Now that we are into colder weather, if I notice anything I will advise.

You should go to your dealership....get one of the service writers, and have him do a "search" in front of you, for any and all TSB'* related to power steering for your vehicle.....

Yes, Tech'* are handicapped by the amount of diagnostic time they get....When it came to electrical, I would start the car up, let it idle for half an hour before my lunch break, and I would then proceed to drive the vehicle during my lunch break, being careful to not to mess the car up......If it didn't show up by then, there really wasn't much that I could do....

The only other thing to do, was to call TAC, see if they had received any other similar concerns, and might have a PENDING service bulletin.....but TAC is a last resort....you had to check out the vehicle, try to recreate the problem, check for TSB'* before calling them.....

I received a letter from GM / Buick today saying that they are aware of the issue and they will fix it under warranty. Didn't say what the issue was, but after many visits to the dealer (over a one year period) and being told there was nothing wrong, and that I was being "too picky", etc, etc, someone finally stepped up.

This ongoing issue is one of a few reasons after being a life long exclusive GM buyer, my last two cars/trucks have NOT been GM.

It seems that almost every warranty issue we have with a GM car turns into a battle to get a dealer to step up and fix it. They either can't get parts, don't think it'* a problem, don't care, or, and this is my favorite, "don't get paid enough to figure out what the problem is."

Now, on to the 2008 Solstice GXP braking issue where you almost run into things after a cold start as the brakes don't stop. - Dealer: It'* working the way it was designed. Owned 30+ GM cars over my life and none of them have ever behaved like this. - No problem found (again) - now out of warranty and it'* all on me. Once again many complaints on the forums about this issue.

Called the dealer on the Buick steering issue. No idea what I was talking about. Finally found some information. They don't have any parts. Will call when parts come in. Maybe a few days or longer. Will post results here.

Just got it back. Too soon to tell if it is fixed. Turns out, after waiting for "parts to come in" there were no parts required. Just a reprogram of the steering control module.
