for some reason it quit working it reads empty all the time now and every once in a while it will jump up to the correct reading stay for 2-3 seconds and fall back to empty this is on my 90 lesabre i think i know whats causing it but just like a second or third and so on opinion thanks my guess it the positive on my sending unit is corroded or the sending unit is going bad or the flot is comin apart from the unit any thoughts??

I am thinking a few things here:

Dead spot on the sender
Short

If it is a dead spot in the sender, as soon as you fill it, it would go back to normal, until it hit that spot again.
If it is anything like the '93, the sender reads 90 ohms while full, 0 ohms while empty. A possible solution would be if the fuel sender wires were shorting with each other.

personally ill bet if you replace your sending unit you will be fine. every park avenue i test drove (i test drove atleast 5 before mine) and my dads and mine both have this problem. when in park if i have a low tank it just goes back and forth non stop, and dings telling me i have no gas. its quite annoying. after extensive research i found out its the cheap delco sending unit, that is infamous for going bad in these cars. if there are no shorts, that is the most likely culprit. also before dropping your tank look under your trunk'* carpet. everyone told me id need to drop the tank and i was under the carpet for some reason and i found a door you can unbolt, and the sending unit was right there. its a long shot being a different car and year but i figure its worth a shot before you drop your tank.

I intend no offense, but you should be aware, a lot changed in 9 years. We are talking 2 completely different bodies, 2 completely different electrical systems. About the only thing they share in common is the Buick badge. Now, it very well may be the sending unit, but there isn't a failure that I am aware of common enough to warrant blindly throwing money at it.

I suspect that a short to ground would flip the gauge to full though, assuming that the figures are the same as those in the '93'*.

Sure could use some FSM'* from the '90 model year about now...

i spoke with my uncle and he said a short in the power wire or bad connection or the unit is bad i am not to concerned as for some reason its been working pretty well within the last two weeks but istill think its full of **** telling my i used a half a tank in 103 miles today???no freakin way my 4x4 silverado uses 1/4th of a tank in 100 miles
