New here! 2004 Buick Park Ave wont start.
 

3.8 engine. It will start with starter fluid but not on its own. It has a new fuel pump and you can smell fuel when you crank it for a while. I pulled a couple plugs and they are completely dry. It seems like the injectors aren't firing. what would cause this? Thanks a lot guys!! :thumbup2

Pull the injector wires one at a time, and while cranking use a multimeter (set to DCV) to probe the connector to see if it is getting signal.

Just because you have new fuel pump, doesn't mean you have pressure.....have you checked pressure with a gauge? Have you at least depressed the schraeder valve?

If pressure is ok, disconnect each injector harness......with key on, test the pink wires for voltage with a test light......if no power, check the fuse.....

If there is power, attach a noid light to the harness and crank the vehicle...the noid light should flash.....if it doesn't and you have good fuel pressure, could be an ICM, PCM, or Security issue.....

Has the vehicle been scanned for codes?

After trying to start the car, I depressed the Schroeder valve and just a little fuel came out, it didn't have ANY pressure to it at all. I checked fuses, and no codes. Im going to pull a fuel line and check flow at the fuel rail.

Question is, why did you replace the pump to begin with?

I took out the pump and checked it by putting 12 volts to it and it works fine. Not getting power to the pump. The fuse is good, and the relay is good. Car runs fine if I use a 12 volt jumper wire to the pump. I dont get it?? What else could stop the pump from getting power?

security system. if it does not see that you have the right key, it will cut power to the fuel pump. to verify this is not the problem, make sure that the security light lights up when you shut off the car. it should stay on for about 5 minutes after shutting the doors, and when you open one. if the light isnt working, its probably burnt out, and you have a problem with the passkey 3 system. if the security light is on while the key is in the on position, you definitely have a problem with the passkey system.

try relearning the key. here is a video of how to do it.

You disconnect the harness from the fuel pump module in the trunk....attach a test light to "B" and "C" teminals of harness......with key "on", it lights for 2 seconds, and goes out......while cranking, it should be on all the time.....

If it does not light, you have to check the power AND ground circuits....the grey wire at terninal "B" should be powered under the conditions previously described....if ok, check the ground circuit, at terminal "C".....

If there was no power at terminal "B", and the f/p fuse is ok, then try swapping the f/p relay with another relay in the fuse block......if the relay is ok, and is clicking(being grounded by the PCM under the two conditions), then there is an "open" in circuit #120.....

One thing I have run into, with UBEC's, underhood bussed electical connectors(fuse block), is the silver bolts in the fuse block come loose....try tightening them....also try putting the cover back on, and hitting it lightly with the palm of your hand...if car starts, bad connection in UBEC....
