My regal gs got beat

Can somebody please help me figure this out. My 1998 buick regal gs stock got beat my a pontiac 1998 grand prix gtp stock. We have the same engine and tranny but mine stopped at 110 while he's kept going?

Danthurs 02-17-2010 09:36 AM

Does he have a performance tune? That would disable the top speed.

chubbyboy88 02-17-2010 09:38 AM

nope he has is straight stock...is the speed disabler on the gtp different than that of a gs?

Danthurs 02-17-2010 09:46 AM

If you only hit 110, ya. I think he's at 126 or so

chubbyboy88 02-17-2010 09:49 AM

is there any way to fix this imbalance in the world? and why would gm do that to the regal?

Danthurs 02-17-2010 09:51 AM

All about safety. Check your tire ratings. Then you will need a tune and have the limit removed.

chubbyboy88 02-17-2010 09:55 AM

what are tire ratings and how to I check them? What is a tune or do you mean tune up? Can I remove the limit myself or do I need to take it to a shop?

here's a link to the ratings. You can find the letter just past the size. http://www.buying-tires.com/tire-ratings.html

By tune I mean tune, not a tune up. And no, you can't remove it unless you have the software to do it.

Technically your car hit the limiters at 108mph. GTP's being a sports car has programming to 128mph.

There's ways to correct it, and other inequities.. just make sure you do it safely by upping the rating on your tires to accept the added speed.
