99 Park Ave A/C trouble ? HELP !
I noticed today my ac wasnt running the compressor, it was 60 degs outside. I added a can of 134 with the gage p to 30 psi. The compressor came on and the line got cold.
Now the vents on the pass side are at 150 deg when on hot and 44 on cold. The middle or driver vent is 150 hot and 66 when on cold !! Why 20 deg diff ??? It ha dual climate control.
PLEASE tell me this is an easy answer/fix

where is everyone ??? I also read online that these cars do this when they are low on freon, I know the compressor was not coming on and I put a can of freon in and then it started and the line got cold...Maybe the gage reading is not accrurate and I need another can ???

The AC is not my strong point, but there could be air in the system causing fluid to not flow right. Sorry for the delay, but some of us have been very busy.

Am I by any means an A/C expert? No.
I believe the issue is that the system is not charged properly. The system only loses refrigerant for a reason. If you stuck 1 can in there, and it went from not coming on, to starting, you do not have enough refrigerant in the system. The compressor will not engage unless the low pressure switch is indicating enough pressure <20-25 psi I believe>. From less then that pressure, it usually takes at least 2 cans to get it running right. I also recommend using this opportunity to get something that has UV dye in it, as this will allow you to pinpoint the leak easily. Once you have found the leak, get it fixed, then have the system properly serviced. To properly service it, the system must have a vacuum pulled on it, verify that it will hold the vacuum, and then charged with the exact weight of refrigerant, as well as oil.

well it may need more freon BUT the pass side is blowing 44 deg air the drivers side 66......So its either it needs more, or disconnect the battery and let the module reset, or....its the drivers side air acuator, which looks pretty easy to replace...I will try more freon when the weather gets warmer....if that doesnt work I will try resetting, if that doesnt work I will see if the acuator is working correctly...if that doesnt a can of gas and a match or take it to someone who knows what they are doing..

rjolly pretty much said all that is to be said. you gotta remember an ac system is a sealed system, and meant to never have to be refilled. if you ever have to charge it that means there is a leak. and it has to be vacuumed. if you do it yourself it will never be as good as with a vacuum. (also more potential for moisture and corrosion in the system) owning the same car though, if its electronic you can try 2 things, move the pass climate control then tap the off button once, the car will beep but the ac will not turn off. that means the pass climate control was disabled and in theory the car will become the same temp on both sides. if that doesnt work pull the battery, and if that doesnt work listen for the blend door. in your case though that doesnt seem to be the issue considering the heat is the same all around. my guess would be either a blockage or leak to where that side of the car cant get cool.
i usually leave things involving ac to my dad considering its his profession though lol. so take what i said with a grain of salt.

ok i took the drivers side temp blend control off today, much easier job than on the Bonneville ! The control is fine and working as it should, I also flipped the door closed by hand while I had it off and the drivers side is still warmer than the passengers side. I added anonther can of 134 and now I got the temps within 5 degs side to side. the pass side is 39 and drivers side 44.
So I assume it was low and probably has a leak...I will see how long it lasts
