Default AC HELP Again please.....

'93 Park Ave.

A/C compressor was cycling, my guages were showing a low reading on the low side and a high reading on the high side. Part of the low line was cold, part was not. I pulled the orifice tube and it was very, very nasty. I replaced that, evacuated system and recharged. All lines are now getting moist, compressor is staying on all the time, but not overly cold and the air inside is not quite right. Put guages back on it and now the low side is reading @ 65 ( quite a bit too high) and the high side is reading between 150-155 (a bit too low for the humidity and heat here on the coast). I fear I've got a bad compressor.......any other comments would be quite helpful.

Did you try revving the motor with the A/C on and see if it dropped the low side and increased the high side pressures and caused the clutch to cycle?

At idle, it'* not uncommon for a compressor to not cycle if it'* warm out and the car isn't moving, but in your case, 65 psi on the low side is really bad.

Your compressor is probably what'* bad, but don't quote me on that. It might have failed due to the orfice tube being clogged and causing an abnormally high output pressure and really low suction pressures.

I'm far from an A/C expert, though, but wouldn't be suprised if it was your compressor being bad. It is 13 years old, after all.

Also, if you haven't already, you should change the reciever/dryer for you cars age (but you've probably already done that.)

Good luck, and hope you get your A/C to freeze you out of the car soon.

If your at 65 psi,,man your really to high you should not be any more than 45psi on
the low side,,28 to 30 is the sweet spot,,

Because whats happening is your pressure is so high your freion
is unable to circulate within the system properly,,

try letting it back to 28-30 and see if it'* better...

Uh..Dan...check the FSM...

My 97 book actually states..if pressure is below 50psi and the air temp coming out of the vents is not cold enough...add a pound you are low.

I'm getting pressures like that with only 2 cans of 134A................got to be a compressor problem. 24oz. of Refrig. is not too much for the system. The lines must be contaminated. More work ahead I fear, but ol' moms gotta have cold A/C in this humid climate.
