Question 2004 Buick LeSabre - Interior Lamps Don't Turn Off

When I acquired the car, I was told that the fuse kept blowing and that the interior lights didn't work.

I've become curious. After using a test light to ensure that the circuit was OK, I plugged in a replacement fuse and the interior lights illuminated. The problem was, they wouldn't turn off. I closed all the doors and waited. I waited until the exterior lamps finally went off (which is a pretty long time). The interior lights remained illuminated. Worse, I started the car, and after ensuring that all the buttons to the individual lights were switched "off," I realized that the lights would remain on during driving. Hazardous indeed. I replaced the fuse with the one that had burned out.

The only clue I have is that the red strips on the rear doors did not illuminate when the working fuse was in place. But I don't see how they could not work and result in all the others staying on forever.

My next step will be to check all the doors (pulling from inside) to see if the sensors are tripping up. But I have little hope as it seems that these sensors would be the same as the ones that trigger the "door ajar" alarm, which I only receive when warranted.

If anyone has some insight on things I could try I would really appreciate it. Working interior lights would be really great.

P.*. All the dash lights work normally. Just the dome lights, door lights, and trunk light seem to be on this circuit.

Thanks for the help!

Sounds like a faulty headlight switch. If you pull the panel, and disconnect the switch, then put a good fuse back in, will the overhead lights still come on? If the fuse blows, something is shorting out. Both the outside lights, and interior lights have control through that switch.
