How about some Olds LSS questions?
 

Greetings

First off, thanks to the Bonne Club Form for allowing some of us other GM H body owners some forum space.

About 2 months ago I purhcased a bone-stock, 1998 Olds LSS, non-suprcharged with less than 56K miles. . So far I think it is a great ride, however, I am always looking to improve perfromance and handling.

I have a couple of questions maybe someone can field.

:?: First, how much would be involved to switch to a supercharger using stock parts? Are the differences between the normally asiprated 3800 and the SC version just a question fo fuel and air plumbing or does it go deeper like to cylinder head design, compression ratio etc.

:?: Second, I know this is a farily big car with somewhat of a luxuary ride but I feel like I am getting a far too much "wallow" over bumps. It has the automatic load leveling system. What is the life expecancy on the rear air shocks/struts? Should be be looking at replacing them? What about forgetting about the leveling system and just going for good gas units?

hey, welcome to the forum!

Just about any upgrade we can do, you can do. The Supercharger is out of the question, though. Yes there are alot of differences. The heads are the same, but the intake is different, PCM, engine wiring harness, injectors, etc. For that kind of money, you could sell yours, combine the money, and buy a SC version of an H body.

As far as the load leveling is concerned, mine is bone stock, and running fine. The Olds was built more for comfort, and has a softer ride than the Bonneville. You might be looking at springs, sway bars, and the like. Maybe even a STB from a Bonneville.

Actually Will, the Heads ARE Different! The Fuel Injectors moved from the Intake to the Heads in the SC 3800. 8)

Shit. I knew that. Mind has been mush lately, and I've been spending too much time on Josh's SSE. Slap me. I guess the Rat and I are even for that 94 L36 call!

So what can I do with a normally aspirated 3800?

I saw on another forum that the #1 easiest perfromance upgrade, a K&N air filter is a waste of $ because the intake can't really use the extra flow. What is the opinion on here?

I have also looked for Cat-back exhaust systems but haven't seen any anywhere.

I'm beginning to think that I need to leave the LSS stock and get a Firebird or Camero to play with.

I am willing to provide at a reasonable price slotted rotors for the LSS or most un provided H bodies. Both will and myself (speedyguy/Ty) will be testing the product but the company I have making them for domestic performance stand behind there product and produce high quality product. If you need something for your car that is not provided I can either find it or have it made.

I'm Willwren, the wonderful car parts tester and Techinfo Adminstrator. Those brakes Ty was talking about are going on my car tomorrow. My intake is coming from Hector, as my chip did, and plug wires too, when they get here! These guys are the greatest.

The other really great thing is the Techinfo section. There's a TON of info up there, including a whole article dedicated to intake mods. If it doesn't answer all your questions, I don't know what will!

they make a super charged old lss? when?

The senior partner in my office has one...and his is a 98 LSS. Not sure how long they have been SCing the LSS but they do exist 8)
