'03 Lesabre transmission fluid replacement or not
I purchased a used 2003 Buick Lesabre, two years ago, which has 101,000 miles on it and is leaking/dripping transmission fluid. Should I replace the transmission fluid and filter? By the way the transmission fluid does smell burnt, it real stinks.
I suspect the transmission pan gasket is leaking, also both coolant lines to the radiator are weeping.
I plan to replace both lines but I heard of the after affects of draining and replacing the transmission fluid and filter on vehicles with more than 101,000 miles on it and I wonder if it is worth the risk of more future problems?
The only other problem I experienced with the transmission, other than the dripping pink transmission fluid, is it will buck from first to second and third gear during Stop-n-Go traffic. I did record an error code telling me the pressure shift solenoid was defective. I never replaced the solenoid because the solenoid is stuck in the high pressure mode and error code resets itself, probably because I do a lot of highway driving.

I personally would consider replacing the pressure control solenoid because the harsh shifting will damage other components in your transmission. It'* a bit tricky but it can be done in the car. To add to the servicing of the transmission a new filter and fluid can never hurt. I would also suggest updating to dextron 6 fluid. It'* spendy but worth it.

people who have issues and then decide its time to do the maintenance are the ones who perpetuate those myths. if they had done the proper maintenance to begin with it would be fine. but like he said its never bad to do the proper maintenance

Yeah, the maintenance schedule for "normal" driving, was 100K for fluid/filter change.....my shop always recommended doing it at 50K.....
More often than not, when you went in there for a TCC solenoid, or pressure control solenoid, you had to check the valves in the valve body, and more often than not, try to upsell a valve body with new solenoids, because, more often than not, you would be going back in there to replace something else...
