Default V6 tranny or V8 tranny?

The Lucerne comes with a 3800 V6 or the Northstar V8. DUH! I am, from my research, led to believe and know that the V8 uses a different 4 speed transmission than the V6 models which would be more heavy duty. Can the bell housings be swapped and the V8 transmission be used on the V6 engine in the Lucerne? Or do they make a fleet service or police interceptor heavy duty tranny that will go in with my V6?

i think there is alot more than just swapping a bell housing. if you dont plan to mod your car i dont see a need to get the bigger trans. the stock one lasts about 150 and if its rebuilt properly it will last that long again. most people dont keep there cars to 300k

if you have it done by someone who knows what they are doing it will last longer than you have the car most likely. the only time people get in trouble is when you try to put a junk yard trans in. you throw your money away on a trans that is the same as what you already have
