my serpentine belt seperated and one of the loose ends grabbed the camshaft position sensor connector wiring and ripped the connector off. my local auto parts stores have replacements. however they come with 3 black wires. my old connector is who knows where since we had the car towed home. i need to know which color wire goes where on the new connector. it is a 99 buick lesabre 3.8

by the way my wires are black/wh, brown/wh, and yellow/brown

I found a diagram that is supposed to be for a 98-99 Lesabre, but on it I am seeing brown/white, black/white, and white/black.



I don't see any yellow/brown wires listed, let me see if I can find a diagram that I know for sure is for your car.

Still not finding a diagram that I am sure is for your car, but I can tell you that the brown/white is the CAM signal wire, and it goes A on the connector like seen in that diagram, coming from the ICM that wire is labeled J, which you can see in the pic I am posting of the ICM wiring harness.

The white/black wire goes to what is labeled C in the diagram, and coming from the ICM it is letter N.

The last wire, the black/white one goes to the center wire on the connector, which is labeled B in the diagram, and M coming from the ICM.

I'll try to take a look at my own CMP to see if the connector has A, B, and C labeled on it, I believe it does, but I am not positive.

If that does not help I am sure somebody else better familiar with the circuit wiring of the CMP will post, and help you out.

it could be a white wire instead of yellow. my new connector is labled A,B, and C. i should be able to follow wires back to pinouts on icm. thanks for your help

It probably is white, it may be a tad dirty and that could make it look a bit yellow.

I did try to go out and look at my wiring, but I figured I'd not be able to see it with out removing a few things, and I was right, I could not see the connector at all.

back together and fired right up. idle not great. when i put it in gear it dies right away. in park i can increase rpms and it sounds good but just wont stay running when put in gear

Is the check engine light coming on?
Do you have a way to scan for basic trouble codes?

Can you take your IAC out, clean the pintle of any carbon deposits, then put it back?
If possible test the fuel pressure, I don't think it is a fuel pressure issue since you can give it gas in park and it sounds ok, but I'd have the pressure tested to rule that out.

had p300 code random misfires probably from original connector ripping off. inspected and cleaned iac valve which looked good. checked for fire at coils and no fire at middle coil (2 & 5). swapped coils around and still no fire at middle coil. checked my connector to ignition control module and its tight. apparently fried ignition control module. will try to find a working one to install first before shelling out 145.00 for new one

I am not sure how the ICM got damaged in the process, but it is possible it may have already been on the way out, they are known to fail, but usually it is intermittent from heat soak.
You have done right in testing it by switching the coil packs though.
It probably won't help, but it would be worth a shot to remove the 3 coil packs, then the ICM, and check it all over for corrosion, if it has any carefully clean it with something line a wire brush, and or some fine sand paper, apply some dielectric grease, then put it back on.
If that does not work you could try a local salvage yard, but it may be better just to spend the money and get a new one, as you never know whether or not you'll be getting a good one or not.
A while back I found a spare one on E-Bay, it was not too expensive, I looked and don't see any on there at the moment though.
Wait, I think I just fond some, I see the best choice IMO which is an AC Delco one, and also a United Ignition Wire one, I have not heard of them though, so I'd go with the AC Delco one.

once i confirmed icm was definitely bad i was going to buy a new one. that ebay price is pretty good. i ordered it. maybe by mon/tues i will be running again. thanks
