gas fumes smell
 

hi guys !i have a 97 buick lesabre and when i shut it off i smell gas fumes ! i checked it out from one end to the other ! i checked all lines, connections, the fuel filter, the gas tank , the injectors and regulator and all was dry ! i was thinking, would there be a tiny hole in the filler tube or the sensor that plugs into the tank might be leaking fumes ? it don,t hurt the running any, it runs like a new car and easy on gas ! also another question if you don,t mind ! what degree thermostat does my car take ? it has the 3800 v6 in it ! thanks guys for your time ! by the way, i even put a new gas cap on it too ! also there is no check engine light coming on ! thanks again !

Does the fumes seem to be coming more from the front, under hood?
Did you check the fuel pressure regulator by removing the vacuum hose to it, and run car for 5 minutes, and see if the fuel starts squirting out of the nipple, indicating torn interior diaphragm?
The correct thermostat is 195 degree. Good to drill a little hole to assist in air bleeding!
I would use a Delco for replacement.

If you had a leak in the EVAP system, your check engine light would be on and a code set....

The smallest fuel line leak, can cause a smell........it would help if you could pinpoint a area, like the engine compartment or the fuel tank area......

Have seen where the plastic lines attach to the metal lines of the fuel rail, if you grab the lines and twist/move them, they can seep where they attach to the metal lines of the fuel rails.........another area is the o-ring at the injectors......check the f/p regulator as Soft ride suggested....
