I would be checking the door ajar switch....unfortunately there are 4 of them....a scan tool looking at data from each switch, while pushing/pulling on the door, would be helpful.....another possibility if a chafed wire in the door.......

Jim welcome to the forums. To eliminate confusion,I have now created a new thread regarding the interior light problem.
Instead of replying to a really old thread, it is best to create a new post. Many members from years ago may no longer be participating anymore.
The similar topic thread originally posted to was located here: https://www.gmforum.com/buick-172/my...ndrome-299004/

Sometimes when the switches are going bad, they are hesitant to indicate [door open] as well. Guts going bad or gummed up or whatever. You could try opening the doors one at a time and see if the dome light takes longer to turn on with a particular door or doors.

I'd bet something is gummed up in the door ajar switch. I think it'* part of the lock mech at the back of the door on your car.

To us, its a waste of time reading through everyone else'* post just to get to yours. Everyone'* situation is always unique and never cut and dry. Also, sometimes the thread starter will enable instant email notification when they start the thread. How would you like it if someone else chimed in on your own thread asking the same question and you start getting bombarded by email notifications every time someone makes a post?

The thread wasnt that long , but whatever, new facts after messing with it today, second problem , None of the running or headlights come on The button lights up to indicate they are on , but nothing is on, I have checked fuses and relays , no dash lights, hazards work, and the interior lights eventually go off with the battery saver timed power, but soon as you turn the key on without opening the door the interior lights come right back on. do 96'* have a BCM? car has sat since about 2013 . there was moss growing on the concrete under the car..lol

With a car sitting for that long, I recommend checking for corrosion at the major power and ground points. This includes primary power cables, ground busses by the front doors, and possibly even corrosion in the power distribution centers. This doesn't even include the fun and exciting realm of rodent intrusion.
For the headlights, trace down your power circuits. And find out where you are losing power at. It may even point you to your answer to your original question.
