Default Replacing A/C Compressor

What all is involved in replacing the A/C compressor on a 1998 Park Avenue Ultra? I have been told that the compressor isn't hard to remove/replace, but I am concerned with the amount of oil to put back in the compressor. I bought a NEW Delphi compressor, and it just says to replace the oil with however much was in the compressor. Well, the compressor was the part leaking, so I don't know if that'* accurate. I purchased a "high viscosity" oil for it that says 150. Is that the right stuff? Also, do I still need to turn the new compressor by hand to get the oil in the parts? I will be taking to the shop to get it recharged, so is it safe to drive it once I get it in?

Normally, you do just replace the oil with the amount that can be drained out of the old compressor. If you have evidence that yours was leaking a lot of oil along with refrigerant, you can increase that amount.

To be more specific, here'* the actual instruction from the FSM:

Remove the compressor and drain the oil. Measure the oil removed. Drain the oil from the new compressor. If more than 30 ml (1 fl.oz.) is drained from the compressor being replaced, install that amount of clean oil back into the new compressor. If less than 30 ml (1 fl. oz.) is drained from the old compressor, add 60 ml (2 fl. oz.) of clean oil to the new compressor.
As far as the oil type, you use PAG refrigerant oil. I am not sure what you mean by 150.

You should not have to turn the compressor by hand to get the oil in as 1 fl. oz. is not that much, but you can if needed.

You are safe to drive the car without any refrigerant as long as there is PAG oil in the compressor. It will not cycle without a proper charge.

That sounds good. The oil I got says PAG on it, 150 was the viscosity. I'll just follow the instructions regarding the oil.
Thanks!
