The first fan will turn on, allow the car to cool back down, and then turn off. If the car really never gets near the 3/4 mark, you really don't have anything to worry about. This is normal operation so you mean that the secondary fan really never work till the car will almost come to a state of overheating (3/4 mark)? .

You should be fine with that coolant you added, but if the DexCool has never been replaced in those entire 98k miles, I would definitely get it replaced by a professional shop as they will flush out the old fluid and then put the new in, where as all you'll be able to do is drain it. Its a problem of the old coolant being so old, not a problem with mixing the coolant you just added. Like i asked, How much do you think this will cost?

How high does the needle go before the first fan kicks on? After the needle reaches the middle mark or beyond abit of it Could you perhaps get a picture of this behavior, both the maximum temperature it reaches and the point where the fan turns off? the primary fan turns off after the needle goes down from the middle mark.
Hmm.. I'll just take some pictures this weekend.

As I mentioned before. There is one fan that turns on when the temperature rises to about ~215 degrees. There is another fan that turns on when the temperature rises around the 3/4 mark (225 or 235 degrees, I forget which). That same secondary fan also turns on when you turn the A/C on, so yes, it is only there to turn on if you get near the state of overheating. If that secondary fan ever needs to come on due to heat reasons, there'* a problem. The primary fan is sufficient to cool the radiator down enough to cool the engine down.

A coolant flush should cost you $50-$80 depending on what shop you go to.

As far as where the first fan kicks on, that'* perfectly normal.

Try this. Go to your car, let it warm up to operating temperature, and turn the A/C on. I'm assuming your A/C works. While its on, go to your engine bay and check if one of the fans started up. One fan should start up at that point. Let me know which one it is.

AAHH.. Okay, so that fan is just there for back up.. I see. The only fan that is turning on is the Passenger side fan. Maybe it'* the primary fan. But I've never seen the other fan (driver side) turns on whether the temperature reaches the middle point and/or turning the A/C. I did what you told me. I let my car get warm and turned on the A/C. The fan that turned on is the passenger side fan.
I also mentioned before that I tried to let my car warm and waited till the fan turns (same procedure). When the fan (passenger side) turned, I turned on the A/C thinking the other fan (driver side) will turn on but it didnt. The passenger side fan just spinned fast.

I'm thinking of Pep boys. Is this place expensive?? I'm also thinking of changing the oil and filter too? Do you think I can do this with just someone or its better if I let the mechanics do these? Thanks again...

I don't personally reccomend pep boys i'd go to just a small lube shop if need be for the oil change..But this is all based on personal preference..one fan should also be smaller than the other(at least in the 92-99'*) i cant remember what side is the smaller one but you can tell by looking at them i beleive the smaller one is the ac fan..i may be wrong i forget lol
