That is fine, the fans most likely don't come on till 225ish. The engine will warm up in traffic because there isn't as much moving air cooling the engine off and going up a hill because the engine is working harder. Also I don't believe the temperature gauge is completely accurate.

The car has two radiator fans, a primary and a secondary. The secondary fan only turns on when either the engine temperature is very high (260+), or when the A/C is turned on. The primary fan only turns on at around 230-235. If your engine'* temp is rising to 217, that is perfectly normal as the primary cooling fan does not turn on at that temperature. You should only have reason for concern if the temperature rises above 235.

What the guy above me said, lol. I posted right as he did. I don't remember if its 225, 230, or 235, but one of those is when the primary fan is set to kick on.

On all of the 3800'* I've tuned, primary turns on at 212, and secondary at 226.

The AC is also putting extra strain on the engine, and the fans are circulating the warm air from the cars around you when you are sitting in traffic and when it is hot out.

FSM'* state 212-216F for low speed fan and 228F for high speed. AC kicks the fans onto high when it is switched on.

The fans do get turned off once certain speed is reached. IIRC it'* about 35mph.

Overall your car sounds to be running perfectly fine.
