Default Brakes On a 93 Le sabre

ok, my nieghbor has a 93 Le Sabre and the ABS is always on. but thats not what im worried about. when driving, the brakes will be fine, and then all of a sudden you hit the brakes and they will go to the floor and you have barely no brakes! but if you let go and press them again theres pressure and they work fine... any suggestions what i should check?

Thanks
Devon

I'm surprised that no one has jumped into this problem sooner. Maybe they know your neighbor??? Anyway, I'll assume that he/she checked the brake fluid level, right? If that'* OK then my guess is that they have a bad Master Cylinder. Also, maybe that ABS light might shed some additional light on the brake problem. They REALLY should find out exactly what'* wrong with the system.

well the ABS light has been on for over 3 years... this pressure loss is a recent problem. yes i checked the brake fluid, and its alright.

The master cylinder will show a leak under it at the firewall most times but "this one time .." It did not show a leak but needed replacing.

Clearing out the lines will help the light if its still on after the system is repaired.
