am i feeling my axles in the steering wheel when i turn?
hey all. ive noticed in the past few days, while at a considerable speed, say 25-30 mph, i can feel what almost feels like warped brakes in the wheel when im turning. i know the tie rod ends are shot, and the brakes are warped. i plan on replacing these this weekend. i also replaced the right side axle after it separated. i cant decide if this is the wheels having too much play and moving around, the brakes are way more warped than i think they are or the fresh axle wearing in. i know the tie rod ends are REALLY gone. the sway bars are REAL clean where the tire rubs them. i was wondering if any of you guys had any insight.
thanks alot! |
could be bearings, with the wheel in the air move from 12 to 6, up and down and see if there is play, should be none

Why not fix the other problems first?

The vibration you feel when turning is probably the tie rod ends. You definitely have to fix all the known issues before you determine if there are more.

thats the plan. bearings are good 12/6. cant test the 3-9 because of the tie rods. just wondering if there are any other common problems that would cause this.
on a side note, i think the brakes might be ok after all. i was stopping going up a steep hill today on the freeway and they didnt chatter at all. when i reached my destination, i looked at the tires on a hunch, and i was right. the outside of the tires are prematurely wearing in the front. the alignment looks fine, and the tires bulge is the same on the inside as the outside. (no excess positive camber) this has me thinking that the tie rods are causing (what i have always heard it referred to as) "death wobble". where both tires are turning in at the front upon braking. either way, ive got all the aforementioned parts on order and plan on replacing them and getting an alignment done on saturday. |
Agree, fix what's worn out and report back.
