In my opinion, the safer play is to get a factory rebuilt unit from RockAuto. Cost about $60 more, but the peace of mind on this critical part has t be part of the decision making process.

I appreciate all the input guys. I can't afford a new or rebuilt alternator. And as much as I would like to try my hand at rebuilding one myself I can't wait for a rebuild kit to arrive. So I took the advice of the first two responders and went to the salvage yard. As it turns out I found a really decent and fairly new rebuilt alternator there for about the cost of a rebuild kit with shipping. It is now installed and the car is back on the road.
Thanks again for the help. RVC |
