camshaft position sensor
Hi, I have a 93 lesabre and would like to know if you think I would be able to replace the camshaft position sensor myself?
I tried to find it in techinfo but could not.
thanks

Darryl, try the search feature for "cam sensor" or "code 41" You will find lots of links.
The sensor (pickup) is easy to change out. You will need a mechanic'* mirror, a flashlight and a 10mm socket. But often the problem is that the interrupter magnet has been thrown from its little hole in the camshaft sprocket inside the timing (front) cover. There is a procedure described by Padgett where you replace the magnet through the hole with epoxy. I have the tools, so I prefer to remove the cover to change them. That gives me the opportunity to find and remove the little bits of magnet so they don't get in harm'* way.
Here is a link with photos showing where the sensor is located on an L36. Even though you don't have the L36, your cam sensor is set up the same way. http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=67136

i did the cam sensor dont waste the money until you know it is the sensor. you will want to remove the sensor to see if the magnet is still in the sprocket or not. here is my write up just to replace the camsensor. other hopefully useful info in there too.
www.lesabret.com go to forums then go to the maintaince section and it will be in there as "cam sensor replacement code 41"

I have OCCASIONAL E041 codes being set on a 1989 Toronado and I'm considering replacing the sensor. If the magnet has fallen off, wouldn't the Code 41 be constant? My Code 41 comes and goes.
Thanks

Ok, since my Code 41 was intermittent, I figured my magnet was intact and the problem was with my sensor. So, I simply replaced the sensor ($35). Now, with the new sensor installed, the Code 41 went to CONSTANT. SES light lit from the moment I started it. Put the old sensor back in and SES went out again but I expect intermittent 41s will be back too.
So, what are your thoughts? Is the new sensor junk? Is my magnet still attached or is the magent gone and the old sensor is faulty too? I'm confused. I guess my next step is to visually check the magnet.
Please give your thoughts or ideas.
Thanks!!!
