99 Century Custom died while driving down the road

Anyone ever had this problem? Last week, after driving around town all day, got out of the car for a quick stop. Wouldn't start. Kept trying occasionally for the next hour or so with no luck. It would crank just fine, but acted like the engine wasn't getting any gas at all. Replaced the fuel pump, ran just fine for one day. Today after driving for about 10 minutes, the engine quit a few seconds after I turned on the A/C, going about 55 down the road. Now it won't start again, just like last week. This has happened before a few times, but it would always start back up after a few minutes. Has about 225,000 miles.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

is it a 3300? sounds like the crank sensor or icm. see if it has spark

My 2004 lesabre does the same thing. Runs fine for days, then just dies , often while turning at low speeds or in the middle of road. Will start or not , then run great for days again. Just did fuel pump. Was thinking crank sensor as well. wILL replace and see. Have found tons of online posts for this on buicks!

Sounds like a bad crank shaft position sensor to me. Next time it won't start see if you are getting spark to any of the plugs. Or, just change the CPS.

Cps

Hubby of course found it needs a few more tools then he has, so sensor not done yet and car worse then ever. Now off the road. Now it keeps saying check gas cap- never had that before and cap is tight, added - emission leak detected,,,, too. HAve tester, cleared both codes. Will sit and swear at it until we can get - or rent puller and harmonic whatever. I pray this fixes stalling problem!

Just because the gas cap is tight, does not mean its sealing correctly...

This is what you need to look for on the seal of the gas cap...

OMG Help

Ok, Husband rented tool to remove harmonic balancer, etc to replace the CPS. Any hints on removing the pulley/ He has read , and re read on how to do this and for the life of him, he cannot get it off. He is really beginning to think he is just stupid- so if you have any Redneck Michigan Not to bright ideas for him, please share be fore i am left carless forever.

Remove the bolt first. :w3

The puller should get it off, but you might have hubby spray the pulley where it seperates from the crank shaft with some parting oil, and let it sit over night. That might loosen things up. The other thing he might try is to crank down on the puller, and just leave it like that for a couple of hours. Eventually the pressure will overcome the resistance.
