Unhappy 3.8 water in engine from EGR cooking the manifold

I have had this same issue on both of my Parks, a 97 at about 80,000 and now my 98 with 43,000 on it. Both times the dealers have told me it was a very common issue due to the small hole for the EGR to pass through, this latest guy said they have now improved the manifold with a larger hole. I have to wonder why there has never been a recall on this, it is a persistent problem that I feel Buick should pay for. All said and done with an oil change it cost me $645.00, about the same both times!

It is a common failure that seems to happen outside of the warranty time frame. I am not aware of GM having extended warranty for this issue, but I agree with you that they should.

The new manifold should correct the issue. $645 seems like a decent price.

Yeah I've fixed quite a few of these. Have actually seen a few hydrolock the engine. Luckily it happened when the engine was off and filled the cylinder and the engine wouldn't crank at all. Could have happened while driving and did some rod bending.
