98 LeSabre Brake Pads
 
Had the pads on the passenger side wear twice as fast as the driver's side. Also The outer pad on the passenger side was worn twice as much as the inner pad on the passenger side. The outer pad on the passenger side was worn down to nothing at the bottom of the pad and had 1/8 inch of pad left at the top. It would seem that the outer pad on the passenger side was in constant contact with the rotor and also not ridding parallel to the rotor.

What should I be checking to see what caused this problem?

Caliper pins are seized. Best to replace the entire caliper assembly as one unit.

Mike, i have to disagree with you one this one......first of all, who did the installation, a garage or the owner?

If owner, I would question the installation procedure....

Mike is right, it appears the caliper is not sliding....that could be something as simple as no lubrication.....

I think it is just that the pins were full of gunk; probably the last time the pads were changed they did not remove the pins and clean them. I took the pins out and they were full of gunk; cleaned them up well and they are free as a bird now. No trouble pushing the piston back in the caliper. I think I will hold off on replacing the caliper and keep a watch and see how they do.

I only mention replacing the entire assy due to sometimes the slide pins do not always free up, or they break when trying to remove them. As it happened to the one on my truck and several E450's I get at the shop.

Does anyone know what the torque is on the pins?

Pretty sure it is 26 lb ft for the guide pin bolts.

I think I over tighten them if that is the case. I finished the job up yesterday evening but I have not road test the car yet.
