97 Park Aveune Cruise Control Issues
So my 97 park avenue started having cruise control problems first it started as it would shut itself off every once in a while then it went to doing it a lot and then the only way the light would come on was if you held the gas pedal then as soon as you let off it would go off. Now you cant even get the light to come on at all... All brake lights are working and has a brand new brake/cruise switch . Is there any way to test the the module to see it is that or the switch on the turn signal stalk Thanks Jessie

Only way to test the cruise commands would be with a high end scanner/laptop or Tech 2 at the dealership.

ya x2 I have the 97 PA FSM and there is like 20 pages of cruise information in book 1&2.
Book 2 8A-34 In the (REV test) the scan tool is used to instruct the PCM to enable cruise control for testing. Also a manual jumper can be used on the DLC (whatever that is) for other tests. Book 1 9-B3.

Book 1 page 8A-34-4
Check for DTC codes.
Check that cruise control module linkage is connected & moving freely.
Cruise cable adjustment?
Brake switch for proper adjustment alignment.
Make sure that center high mounted stop lamp CHMSL is working.
Look for broken wires (that critters may have had a snack on lol)
Check for proper installation of after market electronics that may interfere wit cruise system.

Powertrain Control Module-Body Control Module- and about another 20(around a hundred more for newer vehicles) modules located throughout the car that talk to each other over the Class 2 Data bus.
The cruise control(stalk) is probably tied directly into the BCM, and the BCM talks directly to the PCM. Without the Factory Service Manual(FSM) we won't know the specifics of the system.
And your pretty much SOL without a scantool AND the book.
Did you know, the typical cruise control system will be disabled when the PCM is detecting a misfire? When was the last tune up?

That would be where the stepper motor/cruise switch fuse is.
In Instrument panel fuse block

If its intermittent, then its not a fuse.
