97 buick original radio/cassette
I have removed the original radio and have taken it apart to find that the drive belt was off on the cassette player. It wasn't broken and I can't seem to figure out how to properly route the belt so that the player will work. I took a photo of the way that I have it right now, however, the pulleys are running in opposite directions. Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to keep the car all original. The photo is attached

Hook it up and put a cheap tape in it to see what happens.

Hi, I registered for the forum just to reply to this. The picture helped me replace the belt today. I just wanted to say yes the pulleys are turning in opposition but one pulley drives a single gear set while the other drives a double gear set. So At THE Tape drive they are turning the same direction.

Upon further investigation I was wrong about the gear sets. Yes the reels turn In opposite direction but only one at a time is engaged. The other is at freewheel. This would account for one direction to another or "side" of the tape. I can verify that the image above for belt routing is correct. My deck is now working.

Wait, what'* a tape deck?
LOL.
Anymore, I'm surprised that they still exist in older cars. Why haven't they all been upgraded yet?

I still have some cassettes somewhere, not that I would want to load them in an ole car radio player.
Knowing my luck, the tape would get all snarled up in there and I would have a fire or something LOL...
My PA still has the CD & cassette, decided not to upgrade it..cause I have the fancy cassette adapter to plug in an mp3 player..

Yeah, that was the original impetus for fixing the deck so I could interface my phones music. I see they make rechargeable bluetooth cassette adaptors. I'm getting one. Still occasionally i will slap in an old megadeth cassette midlife crisis style.

Oh and be careful of the term upgrade. Sure access, usability, speed of copying and transporting weigh heavily in the mp3s favor. But a tape is pure analog and properly recorded will destroy anything digital as far as audio quality is concerned

Oh, problem with that is, tape is plastic. Plastic stretches and over time the metal particles wear out which has a huge effect on audio quality. So that makes your argument invalid. Even with my **** poor hearing, I can hear more, and clearer with digital.

I'm sure you are aware that what you are hearing is a sampling of the pure analog signal. The receiver is using complex math to try to fill in the gaps. Sure a worn out tape is worse but I'm not going scratch the hell out of a cd then say that analog is better .
