Default 89 Buick Electra Weird Transmission Issue

I'd love to see how this turned out -- my 89 Electra,THM440-T4/4T60, behaves exactly the same.

rwaterhouse hasn't signed in since his last post almost six months ago, so I bet he won't be back to tell us how it went.

Where is the oil level on the dipstick after pulling, wiping it off, then inserting and pulling again?

You could try some trans-magic additive like in Post #8.

Ok, thanks.... a can of trans magic additive, either by Lucas or BG.

Post 5 mentions a "sticky valve."

Also Post # 8 mentions "It (sic) that valve does not open and close correctly it will cause shudder."

Which valve?

My 89 Electra only has 22,000 miles. Would that contribute to a "sticky valve?

I've checked the trans fluid level per the owner'* manual. The level is fine.

Would you recommend changing or flushing the trans fluid? (which)

Thanks again,

To me this is a later resort, maybe not last resort, but definitely not first. Depends on the situation.

The manual shift valve.

22,000 miles in 24 years? So 914 miles per year? I wouldn't be surprised if something was sticking in there.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it would make sense that something is sticking. I don't know anything about the transmission fluid having been changed or not -- it'* safe to assume it wasn't.

I could start there... or?

In that case I would do that and add a can at the same time.

I just realized I did some bad math. 34 years not 24 years. 22,000 miles in 34 years is 614 miles per ear. Even worse.

I would change it. Drop the pan, change the filter, put it back together and fill it up and see what happens.
