My gas gauge sometimes goes crazy andgoes to empty when I have plenty of gas.
sometimes when I turn the key off and back on it will register right and at other times read empty.
Does anyone know of thisn happening? If so can you help solve this irratiting situation? THanks

Sounds like your sending unit is on its way out the door. A fluttering fuel gauge is a good indication that the metal fingers on the float sensor are worn out and is no longer making contact with the board. I thought I had my own picture around here somewhere?? Gonna have to borrow one...

Mike is on track. The fuel level sensor is part of the fuel pump assembly that is mounted in the gas tank. I am not sure if your car has an access panel (it would be in the trunk or under the rear seat) to get at it, or if you have to drop the tank. If you do decide to fix it and you have to drop the tank, with your car being a 96 I would recommend you change the fuel pump at the same time. That is if you are keeping the car for a while longer that is.

In the meantime, you can use the trip odometer to keep track of miles between fillups.

Thanks to both of you gentleman,Mike,and Roy. just bought this car and not sure what kind of milage I am getting, so can't rely on the trip meter (Just yet). I would not attemp to change the float or the fuel pump right now, as it is TOO cold for this old man to be out in this weather. Mike thanks for the idea of the float level, I had thoughtof having to tear out the dash board. What a relief that you said to chec the tank first.

Have another question ,but not sure that this is the right place to post it.
On my 1996 Buick Skylark Limited, I have power door locks. Is there any signaling device that tells me when I have locked or unlocked my car? Like a sound or a light that will flash when operated?
Is there a wireing schematic to show if there is away of hooking something up if there is not anything listed?

you want to have something permant, or are you just trying to troubleshoot a power lock problem? i remember a few grandams of that era had issues with the locks. most times it was that the cig lighter fuse had blown and lock worked and not unlock or vise versa. they were on different fuses is the point and always seemed to blow for some reason. probably too much on the circuit

I have finally gotten the power locks to work. Iam trying ti find out if there is a way to ger some sound or light indicating that the door is opened or closed with the fob.

i dont have any diagrams of the keyless. and i dont know but seems likely that alarm module is a input from the switch to arm or disarm the alarm. you could find these wires and make a light from them. but i dont know how the keyless comes into it
