Default 2001 Lesabre - Transmission fluid leaking

Hi Everyone

I need to replace my pan gasket and I want to ask something :
1. What is the torque for the bolts and the pattern ?
2. If my transmission fluid OK ?(see the photo)

of course I'll replace the filter too ...

Thanks

ATSG manual for the 4T60-E says 13ftlbs, but gives no pattern. I suggest using a standard star pattern. As far as the oil goes, use Dexron 6.

Agree with Mike on both counts. The manual says Dexron 3 but that was pre-Dexron 6 . I've used Dexron 6 in my 1997 LeSabre for years and it is perfectly happy with it. The original transmission has 215,000 miles on it and counting.

Another vote for Dexron VI. Very happy with it in a Turbo 400, 700R4, 4T60 and 4T60E (your transmission).

The fluid pictured certainly seems like an OCONUS version of what superseded Dexron III for use in manual transmissions that had required Dexron II/III. Dexron VI is not suitable for manuals, but Dexron VI is the recommended replacement for all GM North American designed (I say that because the Aisin or potentially others which I don't have any experience may be different) automatics.

OCONUS? You sound like you were prior service.

Defense contractor, I've worked with all branches, (even some foreign Navies), except the Coast Guard.

I just did a complete ATF flush and filter replacement on my old '97 Century Custom. 20x 10mm bolts on that pan. I just used the star pattern and only went down to 11-12 ft lbs with a 1/4 click torque wrench. I realize the Dex VI is probably the best ATF formulation but I wanted to do a complete flush and being cost conscious didn't want to be pumping out fresh Dex VI so I just used the cheaper Dev III which is the spec. The ATF that came out was burnt crap so it was overdue for a change and I won't hesitate to change ATF on my vehicles again after 30-40K mi.
