2001 GS electrical problem PART III ready to give up!
 

Hi guys,
I'm really getting frustrated with this problem. I can't seem to make any progress at all, and I'm at wits' end here.
I've replaced the ignition switch, made sure the battery is fully charged, cleaned and tightened all the various battery cables and all the wires at the starter, removed the starter and bench tested it (perfect), and I still get NOTHING.
Right now, the red security light on the stereo flickers and I hear the same relay clicking sound under the left end of the dash (above the hood release) that I was hearing before. The tach needle has spun all the way around, so the needle rests pointing straight down on the wrong side of the rest peg. I have no interior lights, no horn, no pwr locks, no remote key fob operation, NOTHING.
Does anyone have any ideas what to try? Someone mentioned the body control module at one point, but I don't know where it is or what it even looks like and the Haynes manual is no help. I'm at the end of my rope -- next step is my friendly local mechanic.

you might as well take it to the stealer if it is cause i think you have to have the new BCM programed to your car in order to work properly

Yeah, it's my understanding too that the BCM can't be done by a home mechanic. How convenient... I'm still holding onto a glimmer of hope that there's something else I should look at first. I hate taking it to my mechanic (not the dealer) and having him tell me "It was this one loose connection that a blind man could have seen"
Oh, also I did check all the fuses and they're all good.

If I'm not mistaken, you need a new BCM since they can't be reflashed and you need to take it to a dealer, or know someone with a Tech II. Guess how much all of this adds up to?

Do I dare ask? Probably more than it will cost me to have the frame stripped and powdercoated for my TR6....

You can pick one up and install, then have them reflash it.

the horn strikes me as odd, I don't believe that goes through the bcm. Have you poked around under the hood in the relay box there, checking for corrosion etc?

A lot of unrelated electrical problems would have me looking for corrosion. I'm with Bill on this. I seem to remember a member a while back having all kinds of really odd, unrelated problems. He finally removed the fuse box and looked under it. And it was all corroded. Cleaned it up, and problems went away.
