2000 Regal LS - Oxygen Sensor/Fuel Delivery Issue
 

On an interstate trip I noticed my Service Engine light came on was seemingly low on power when I tried to pass. When I'd push the pedal to the floor the car would react quickly but immediately wane when the RPM's would reach about 3k-3200... I pulled over and revved the car, same thing, sounded normal until around 3000 RPM (although it didn't act like a rev limiter, much more like it just ran out of steam if you will). I could take off from a stop pretty strong though until 3K, then pump the accelerator at a 5 second interval which would get me up to speed. Seemed like a fuel pressure issue.

I went to a local auto parts store and scanned the codes with a innova/eqqus 3160b. It read:

PO131 (O2 Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1, Sensor 1)
and
PO137 (O2 Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1, Sensor 2)

I also noticed the fuel pump was making a bunch of noise, I could hear the high pitched whine in the cabin (not normal). When outside the car it was much louder.


After a bit of research I cleaned the MAF (which looked pretty darn clean anyway) and let the car sit. I just started it this morning and took it for a spin around the block. Fuel pump sounds normal and all seems well.

I have no delusions that the MAF clean did anything at all. I'm going to drive it some today and see if the issue returns.

Just thought'd I'd get the thread out there so I can add info as it happens.. Hopefully the issue will return today, I wanted to get a video of the sound the fuel pump was making and will post when/if it occurs again.

I would think that the low voltage is a lean condition based on your hearing the fuel pump and the car falling on it's face when more fuel would be needed.

Try checking the fuel pressure.

Funny, after cleaning the MAF, i haven't had any more trouble.. Fuel pump sounds normal.. Weird. I'm gonna keep driving it till it decides to misbehave.. Intermittent issues are the worst..
